What is the Reef Hawaiian Pro?  Well, for all you non-locals, the first event of the Triple Crown tries to find the surfer who is best all around surfer who can handle a variety of surf conditions.  Sometimes the waves are 2 to 4 feet and the surfers take longer rides continually ripping the waves.  Sometimes they are 4 to 6 feet which then takes into effect the shallow reef as the waves break quickly.  Last year the champion was Sebastian Zietz from Hawaii.

What is the Vans World Cup of Surfing event?  The second event is arguably the most exciting as it’s the last qualifying event of the season.  This will determine your ranking in the next season’s events.  This is a big wave event – not quite like the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational but a very big competition wave none the less.  The waves at Sunset Beach are long and are sometimes hard to locate.  Surfers endurance plays a big factor in this event as they must struggle to travel to the best waves.

What is the Billabong Pipe Masters event?  Is this the premier event?  Perhaps that is why they do it last.  The Pipeline wave is the best wave to watch not only because it breaks close to the shore but surfing a barrel is just so fun to watch.  The scary/shallow reef makes it dangerous to surf but that same reef also causes that awesome barrel formation.  The 2012 champion was Adam Melling from Australia.
